Chrysta Brown

Chrysta Brown earned her BFA in dance performance with a minor in Human Rights Education from Southern Methodist University. During her time at SMU, in addition to creating and producing her own choreographic projects, she was able to study with and perform the works of Donald McKayle, Robert Battle, Paul Taylor, and Arthur Mitchell.

After college, she moved to Denver.  In Colorado, she danced and choreographed for Ascential Dance Colorado and Peek-a-Boo Sole Productions.  In addition to her passion for dance education and performance, Chrysta enjoys writing and holds her MFA in creative writing with a concentration in creative nonfiction.

Since relocating back to Philadelphia, she has danced with several companies and independent artists. She is currently performing with Dancefusion. She teaches youth and adult dance and fitness classes at several studios in the Philadelphia metro and is the company manager for West Chester Dance Works. 

Chrysta regularly writes for Relief Journal and the Philadelphia Dance Journal. Her work has been featured in the Meadows School of the Arts newsletter, CultureMob Denver, and the Colorado Dance Alliance newsletter. She has also been known to write thought-provoking tweets at @chrystawithawhy
